Kemetic Yoga™ originates from one of the world's oldest civilizations of Ancient Egypt in Northeastern Africa, Kemet. Kemet or KMT was an ancient name for Egypt during the era of the Pharaohs. This ancient civilisation that built the great pyramids, a phenomenon that still baffles modern science today, crafted systems of creating that were based upon an understanding of how the universe operates and were in harmony (MAAT) with those laws. This model has guided the world and allowed for the development of civilisation, religion, spirituality, culture and metaphysics for ALL peoples. This African consciousness is World consciousness.
Rooted in this Ancient African System of Yoga, Kemetic Yoga™ is one of the culturally developed spiritual practices that link movement and breath. The poses in Kemetic Yoga™ were originally developed by Master Yirser Ra Hotep who studied, translated, and interpreted the commonly called hieroglyphic texts of Kemet. These poses are taken from ancient illustrations of Egyptian gods and goddesses from the walls of the Kemetic Temples and Pyramids, which are exclusive to Kemetic Yoga™. This style of yoga focuses on the movement of energy through the body to connect with one's higher intelligence and the divine.
Kemetic Yoga™ focuses on relaxation and meditation with much slower and soft-paced movements than in a standard yoga class. In this style of yoga, one enters a profoundly meditative state before beginning the physical practice. This style of yoga primarily benefits the mind and emphasizes breath control to move. It brings more stillness and calmness to the mind and body. It involves more restorative and meditative asanas which calm the nervous system and activate the brain cells.
Moreover, Kemetic Yoga™ is a series of progressive geometrical postures like Pose of Ausar, Pose of Immortality, Pose of Selkhet, Maat Pose, Pose of Anpu or flows like Kemetic Sun Salutation Sequence that create alignment of the spinal column and correct defects in the skeletal and muscular systems to release stress, fatigue, or tension in the body. Therefore, it can be an excellent addition to yoga sequences for children (correcting slouched and hunched back), working professionals (who spend prolonged hours seated at the office desks ignoring posture), and sportspeople (injury prevention and rehab). Aside from physical health, mindful movement practices enable students to become more aware of their thoughts, feelings, and body sensations, and thereby improve their mental and emotional health. Thus, it helps to reduce anxiety and improve mood.
In summation, Kemetic Yoga™ practice focuses on bringing balance and harmony with the universe through the practice of conscious movements. This healing and regenerative yoga system improves spinal column alignment and corrects skeletal and muscular defects. The goal is to relieve stress and increase blood circulation, nutrients, and oxygen supply to the body's vital systems. In addition, this practice emphasizes the creation of healthy conditions through activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, and healing the mind and body with soft-paced physical movements and yogic breathing. It further allows internal life force energy and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to flow more efficiently and abundantly throughout the body which otherwise may cause headaches and other neurological signs and symptoms. This practice is suitable for all ages and levels of fitness.
